Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit

Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit was appointed as Chairman of SSB effective 1 October 2025. He brings over 30 years of experience in portfolio and fund management covering equities, fixed income instruments, property investments, and private mandates across both Islamic and conventional funds.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting and Management Science from the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toledo, Ohio, USA. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder with the CFA Institute (USA) and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certified by the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia.

Prior to his appointment, he held senior leadership positions at prominent local and international investment institutions. Among these were his roles as Managing Director of Amundi Asset Management (formerly known as Credit Agricole Asset Management, headquartered in Paris) from 2009 to 2012, where he oversaw global Islamic fund management and business development. From 2012 to 2015, he was the Chief Executive Officer of ACA Amanie (an affiliate of Sumitomo Corporation, Japan), leading Malaysian private equity business for global investment. He subsequently served as Head of Private Equity at Felda Investment Corporation, and later as Partner & Chief Executive Officer of Azimuth Global Partners from December 2015 to May 2016.

From June 2016 onwards, he assumed key investment leadership positions including Head of Equity and Fixed Income at the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), Chief Investment Officer of Lembaga Tabung Haji in January 2020, and subsequently promoted to Executive Director, Investment in January 2021. He served as Group Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB) from January 2023 to December 2025.

He currently sits on the Board of SMJ Energy Sdn. Bhd. and serves as a member of the Investment Committee of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy, as well as Adjunct Professor at University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Faculty of Business, Economics & Social Development.
